Erbil, Iraq – 20 February 2019. Mr. Yuichi Yamada (First Secretary General, Press and Cultural Affairs Japan Embassy in Iraq) visited Sakura Park in Erbil for the first time. Mr. Yamada toured the park with representatives from Sardar Group and Toyota Iraq. He received a history regarding Sakura Park from the opening ceremony to the planting of hundreds of Sakura trees throughout Iraq and most recently the FUKUSHIMA SAKURAMORI Project. Mr. Yamada was excited and astounded that the Sakura trees have survived in the Iraqi environment and intrigued that the trees have come all the way from Japan from three different Prefectures such as Kyoto, Yamagata, and Fukushima.
